Steve Derby is a civil trial lawyer who practices in our Civil Litigation Group. Steve has been trying cases in state and federal court for over 33 years. Steve grew up in Upstate New York and moved to California to go to Law School. He worked his way through Law School earning Dean’s List honors, being named to the school’s Mock Trial Team and being named “Outstanding Civil Litigator” in his graduating class.
Admitted:
- He is admitted to all Federal Courts in California
- The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
Education and Qualifications:
Moved to California to go to Law School
He worked his way through Law School earning Dean’s List honors, being named to the school’s Mock Trial Team and being named “Outstanding Civil Litigator” in his graduating class.

- Representing individuals and small businesses his entire career
- Past president of the Alameda Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association
- Past at-Large Board Member of the Consumer Attorneys of California
- Board of Directors of the Contra Costa County Bar Association
- Served on Contra Costa delegation to the California Conference of Bar Associations
- Participated in delegations to the California State Legislature to advocate for legislative changes
